About the Author
Carla Blowey has gained insight, guidance and
wisdom from her dreams for more than 25 years. In 1991, at age 33, she entered
the most painful and challenging time of her life when the death of her
five-year-old son, Kevin, and the nightmare that predicted it, forced her to
re-examine her perceptions about death, grief and the afterlife. Dreaming Kevin
became a valuable tool for healing those misperceptions and reclaiming her life.
Using her dream journal with much discernment and prayer, she uncovered the
personal symbols, metaphors and archetypes that led to forgiveness, healing,
spiritual growth and new life.
Carla recognized the power of sharing our dreams and grief experiences when she and her husband were invited to speak at their church for a Catholic Confirmation youth- group retreat in 1994. Speaking together for the first time, three years after Kevin’s death, they shared the risks they took in processing their grief, walking their faith and living again. Later, inspired by a dream she had about the retreat, Carla realized her daughter and other grieving children also needed a safe place to share their grief stories as well and coordinated the first children’s grief support group in Montrose, Colorado.
Carla was the coordinator for four years of
Rainbows, a national children's grief support program, as well as co-founder
and co-director of Camp Good Grief, a children's camp sponsored by
Hospice of the
In 1997, Carla retired from hairdressing to be present for her growing family. In the midst of changing diapers and teaching her oldest daughter to drive, she answered the call to write Dreaming Kevin. The success of the book is due in part to her ability to write from the heart, exposing her inner world so others might see differently too. Dreaming Kevin has been divinely guided to serve by inviting the bereaved to see their perceptions about death, grief and the after-life in a new light.
Carla is an exceptional and gifted speaker and has presented programs at retreats, workshops and conferences on grief, dreams and healing, writing and publishing a book, and after-death phenomenon. Carla presented her program Dreams: A Blessing in Disguise for Grieving Parents at the 2006 & 2005 Compassionate Friends National Conference and the 2003, 2005 & 2006 Bereaved Parents of the USA Gathering.
In her bereavement workshop, Dreams: A Blessing in Disguise, Carla invites all who are grieving to recognize their own dreams as a valuable tool for healing grief and reconciling the death of their loved ones. She offers group participants an opportunity to see beyond the illusions of death and grief, bringing their dreams, their deceased loved ones, and ultimately themselves, into the Light.
Carla was the editor for Living With Loss™ Magazine (formerly Bereavement Magazine) from 2006-2009. "Sharing our stories and insights is an opportunity to see our grief journey from a different perspective. I believe that every time we see our grief differently, we are in a mode of healing - letting go of perceptions that inhibit our emotional and spiritual growth. With each new insight, we can tackle the diverse issues that complicate living with loss."
Carla lives in Colorado with her husband, their two youngest children and their golden retriever.
Kevin continues to be her Spiritual Coach
always supporting and guiding her on this incredible journey.
